CAMP INFORMATION:
The camp will consist of unique opportunities for younger riders to learn the fundamentals of bike racing. Basic bike and training skills, nutrition and basic bike mechanics will be amongst the instruction topics. In addition to on the bike training, presentations on topics such as: racing as a junior internationally, racing in other cycling disciplines and more. As with any cycling camp, there will be plenty of instruction on the bike with fantastic training rides scheduled around the Washington County area, which has some of the best bike cycling in the Willamette Valley.
Riders participating in the camp will be overseen by some of the most skilled coaches in the United States. All coaches participating in the camps are certified and licensed USA Cycling coaches. The staff includes professional coaches who specialize in working with younger athletes and in giving them the skills and confidence to become great riders.
The camp is open to any rider ages 14 - 22 yrs old (chronological age/not racing age) who is physically able to ride some great roads in the Willamette Valley and compete under race situations. A current USAC License is required. A little previous race experience is good, and the ability to complete rides on consecutive days with the groups is needed. This is not to scare anyone off, do know that we have many beginner level athletes that do just fine at the camp. USAC suggest having particpated in ten races prior to camp.
WHO:
- Female and Male cyclists, Juniors aged 14 to 18, and Seniors age 19 to 22
(chronological age/not racing age)
- Some racing experience preferred (Collegiate A/B, Cat 3/4)
- High school or Collegiate varsity sport experience
WHAT:
- Road racing skills development

- Workshops on racing, training, nutrition, sport psychology & bike maintenance
- Q&A session and group rides with Pro/Top Amateur riders
RACING OPPORTUNITIES:
A selection of riders from all camps will be nominated by the USA Cycling coaching staff and junior program manager to attend the USA Cycling National Development Camp. These camps are a way for riders to begin progression through the USA Cycling Pathway.
HOW TO REGISTER:
The Development Camp registration process will use the USA Cycling online event registration system. Please log into the rider's MYUSACYCLING account and click on REGISTER FOR AN EVENT under USA CYCLING EVENT REGISTRATION. You can search for the camp using the search filters. You can search for "development camp" in the first search box or from the pulldown menu in the second box (ALL DISCIPLINES) and then click on FILTER.
COST:
- Team Registration — $675
- Individual Registration — $750
- Early Individual Registration (varies by camp, date TBD)---$700
TEAMS/CLUBS:
There is a fantastic discount for riders attending camps. To qualify for team registration, a team must register at least 3 riders and make a single payment. Riders do not have to attend the same camp. See more info here at the Team Camp Page.
NON-QUALIFIED?:
USA Cycling does allow for racers who meet the age requirements to request eligibility. Riders need to be ages 14-22 (non racing age/chronological). See details on how you would be qualified here. To request eligibility, email Jim Anderson
Oregon Bicycle Racing Association Scholarship:
OBRA is giving 5 riders partial fee support available for camp (contact Kenji Sugahara kenji@obra.org OBRA Executive Director). Open to any rider age 14-22 (chronological age/not racing age) who resides in the state of Oregon (Vancouver, WA residents please inquire). All riders need to be have current USA Cycling license.
Steps to apply for the OBRA partial fee support for the camp:
Step #1: email kenji@obra.org with a subject line of: OBRA Scholarship. In a short, clear and concisely written email include contact information phone and address, current GPA if in school, name of school and any other specific details.
Step #2: You will be contacted by June 1, 2012 regarding if you were selected.
Step #3: You will then need to register through www.usacycling.org. You will need to email confirmation/receipt to kenji@obra.org that you have registered before your scholarship money is sent.

USA Cycling Development Foundation Grant Program:
Camp participants can apply for grants to offset the cost of the camp or travel to the camp. USA Cycling Development Foundation Travel and Training Grant Program. Eligibility is based, in part, on financial need. Please read the instructions and eligibility requirements carefully. Note that the award money will not cover the entire costs of the camp, so other fundraising activities should be explored. Also, Contact your team manager or president about financial scholarships from your team. You may want to talk to your local racing association about any scholarships available or fundraising ideas. FLYING TO PORTLAND?:
Closest airport would be PDX. Campers are encouraged to arrive on Sunday July 7th sometime after 12noon but before 3pm at PDX. This allows you to catch shuttle service (see below). Leaving is anytime after 12noon on Friday July 13, 2012.
SHUTTLE SERVICE FROM PDX
The camp manager or coaches are unable to pick up riders at PDX. However, a shuttle service will get you to Forest Grove. Suggested shuttle service is the White Van Shuttle (www.whitevanshuttle.com), contact them directly to schedule your pick-up/drop-off.
